Eligibility Criteria: Education, Age Limit, and Domicile

Domicile Requirement

You must be a Domicile of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. The valid Domicile Certificate issued by the Competent Authority must be obtained on or before the cut-off date (02.03.2026).

Educational Qualification (Cut-off Date: 02.03.2026)

  • For Constable (Telecommunication) (Item No. 325): 10+2 (Higher Secondary) qualification with Science Stream is mandatory.
  • For Constable (Photographer) (Item No. 326): 10+2 (Higher Secondary) qualification with Science Stream is mandatory, along with the following:
    • 6 months Computer Course from a registered/recognized Institute.
    • Two years of experience in Videography/Photography, including handling of a digital camera, from any recognized Institute.

Age Relaxation

The crucial date for calculating age is 01.01.2025. Candidates should not be born after 01.01.2007.

Detailed Selection Procedure by JKSSB

The selection process for the Constable posts will be multi-stage, ensuring only the most suitable candidates are selected. Remember, the PST and PET stages are mandatory but purely qualifying in nature.

The selection criteria comprises:

  1. Written Test (For Merit Generation)
  2. Physical Standard Test (PST) (Qualifying)
  3. Physical Endurance Test (PET) (Qualifying)
  4. Medical Examination
  5. Document Verification (DV)

Written Examination Scheme

  • The exam will consist of Objective Type Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).
  • Questions will be set in English language only.
  • Negative Marking: Yes, 1/4th (0.25) of the marks assigned to the question will be deducted for every wrong answer.
  • NCC Bonus Marks: Candidates possessing NCC certificates will receive bonus marks, which will be added to the final merit:
    • NCC “C” Certificate: 5% of maximum exam marks.
    • NCC “B” Certificate: 3% of maximum exam marks.
    • NCC “A” Certificate: 2% of maximum exam marks.

Physical Standard Test (PST)

Candidates will be shortlisted for PST based on their Written Test merit (6 times the total vacancies in each category). PST is qualifying.

Physical Endurance Test (PET)

Candidates who qualify the PST move on to the PET. This stage is also purely qualifying.

PET Requirements (General Candidates)

  • For Male Candidates:
    • Long Race: 1600 meters in 6 minutes 30 seconds (6 1/2 minutes).
    • Pushups: 20 (one cycle of up and down is counted as one).
  • For Female Candidates:
    • Long Race: 1000 meters in 6 minutes 30 seconds (6 1/2 minutes).
    • Shot Put (4Kgs): 14 1/2 feet in three attempts.

Syllabus, Exam Centers, and Admit Cards

The Jkasb will notify the exact syllabus for these Constable posts separately on their official website. Make sure you regularly check the website (www.jkssb.nic.in) for updates on the syllabus and the date/venue of the examination.

Admit cards for the examination will be available for download approximately one week before the exam date. They will NOT be sent via India Post.

Document Verification (DV) Checklist

If you are shortlisted for Document Verification, you must bring the following original documents (along with self-attested photocopies) on the scheduled date:

  • Online Application Form Printout.
  • Valid Domicile Certificate of UT J&K.
  • Academic Qualification Certificates (10th, 12th, etc.)—These must be valid on or before the cut-off date (02.03.2026).
  • Category/Reservation Certificate (SC, ST, RBA, EWS, etc.), if applicable. This must also be valid on the cut-off date and uploaded during the online application process.
  • Proof of Date of Birth (usually Matriculation/10th Certificate).
  • Experience/Computer Course Certificates (Mandatory for Constable Photographer).
  • For ESM candidates: Ex-Servicemen Certificate (Form XIV).
  • Bonafide Certificate (For degrees obtained from Universities outside J&K UT/Central Universities).
  • Two recent passport-size colour photographs (not older than 6 months).
  • Original valid Photo ID Proof (Aadhaar, Voter ID, PAN, Driving License, Passport, etc.).

Important baat: If you fail to produce any required document in original on the scheduled DV date, your candidature will be summarily cancelled.
